It’s easy to find government grant money, it’s another story however if you choose to apply for it. If you’re not looking for government business grant money with which to start a small business or money for education, as with government scholarships or student loans, you might have a little bit of difficulty. The government doesn’t give away free money just for the sake of it giving away. Our government grants money for purposes not falling under personal or private needs.
Finding a government grant
Here’s the easy part. If you’re still in high school, check with your high school counselor about government grants and scholarships. If you’re no longer in school; visit colleges and ask to speak with their financial advisors. Sometimes government grants are listed online, so be sure to check the web. There are even books obtainable that list available government scholarships and grant monies. You can also attempt to dial up the government’s hotline for government business grant money regarding grants and speak with a career counselor or representative that can help you with your needs. That number, should you need it, is (800) 592-0362.
Government business grant money
My latest resources tell me that it’s getting harder and harder to obtain a business loan from the government. Funding for small businesses are about the only government business grants being handed out at this time. They’ve actually gone so far as to say that grants for starting businesses are a fairy tale. There are just so very few, barely a ‘few’, that are given out annually by the government. Their explicit criteria knocks out most people that even bother to apply. Characteristically, one needs to be involved in research/ science or technology and already be established with money already invested. In other words, you probably won’t get a grant to set up a tattoo parlour. Now that’s free money. If we’re talking about a loan… that requires great credit, 10 to 30% upfront out of your wallet and prior experience in the field in which you are trying to start your business.
Government scholarships
A bill requiring college students to payback scholarships that are state-funded for classes they fail or drop has been approved by the state House of Representatives. On Thursday, after lawmakers discussed the implications that it would cause, or the message it would send to the Oklahoma students, the bill passed by 70 to 27; and is on its way to the senate. Rep. Casey, representing Morrison, is of the opinion that the bill keeps students who are going to classes in the higher learning access program of Oklahoma honest and accountable for their actions. Naysayers claim that this law will reduce the amount of money going to college students that might be in true need of financial assistance (especially with today’s economy and, hmm, who shall we blame for that?). Obama insists that passing the law could ultimately save the state an estimated $6.8 million. Under the plan, the state is responsible for handing out government scholarships to students belonging to family units earning under $50,000 a year provided that the same student qualify for eligibility when still attending a high school. The rules for eligibility take into consideration course work and grades of the student.
