All countries depend on the next generation. Whether you believe that or not, it is an undeniable truth. Therefore, it surely makes sense to help increase the younger generation’s potential and ensure that education is available to all and not just a privileged few?
This is something that is clearly recognized by the government in the US as they make available many grants and loans in the best possible way they can.
The Feds Care
Not everyone is born equal and there can be many intelligent people born into poor family backgrounds. This should not limit their education, and thanks to the free grants available, they are able to access higher education and do not need to be overly concerned with keeping their households afloat by neglecting their education.
This is a huge relief from the big guys in the White House and ensures that talents and skills are not overlooked simply due to a lack of money to pursue education. The government backed grants are made available to various schools, colleges and other learning establishments with these institutions identifying the need themselves.
The US government earmarks a considerable amount of more than $67 billion each year for these grants.
A potential student will not be automatically awarded a grant, they will have to meet certain criteria, including being a US citizen having a social security number. Clearly, a certain level of education must be evident and this can take the form of a general educational development certificate or even a high school diploma.
If a potential student does not have these then all is not lost, they may be able to sit a test which they will need to pass to be considered for the grant. There are various types of government education grants and loans around; not only the free grants and you can easily obtain information on all the available grants online.
How Can the Unemployed Receive Educational Help?
Many people are being made unemployed and are using this as an opportunity either to re-train or to take further education courses to increase their own skills set. There are even grants available to help agricultural workers.
This is an area that has mass unemployment and the government education grants are being made available to help re-train workers to help them access employment once again. Another example is teaching, the teaching world is always looking for new recruits and this may be an area for a new career that may be considered.
You will have to have the basic degree requirements to apply for this but you can transfer and update your skills into a short teaching course.
This is a wonderful option for those wishing to convert their degrees and it’s such a worthwhile occupation. The government is spending a lot of money in this area to encourage an influx of new recruits and offers a teach grant. This grant offers up to $4000 per annum allowing a person to pursue a career in the teaching field.
This grant will pay for school fees and other expenses. You do not have to repay this grant and at the end of the course, your teaching qualification will allow you to enter the world of teaching. It basically opens up so many options for you.
However, there is one criterion that must be met and cannot be compromised – that is you must agree to be employed as a full-time teacher for 1 year in certain designated areas, usually inner city or a deprived area. This 12-month contract is in exchange for a free funded course with a grant.
After the 12 months have elapsed, a teaching post in any other area can be considered and pursued. In fact, the world is your oyster then.
Availability of Government Education Grants
The short answer is no if you are wondering if just about anyone can qualify for a government education grant. An education grant is not free money being given away so that anyone can do whatever they want. They are aimed at specific purposes that are identified as areas of need.
That need could be a gap in the skills market, re-training long term unemployed, or allowing financially deprived children the opportunity to access higher education as to give them a better employment opportunity.
