Government Grants For Displaced Families

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc throughout the Gulf Coast and displaced roughly a million residents.

Homes and businesses were completely destroyed, while others suffered damage ranging from minor to severe (depending on locality). Lives were lost and families were torn apart.

For some, it would take months to reunite with family and loved ones. There was chaos and confusion in the aftermath as far as where to send all of those people who had just lost everything they owned. Lucky individuals had family members in other states to go to for help.

Some moved into shelters with only their lives and the clothing on their backs. And others remained completely homeless. No transportation, no job, and no shelter. One evening they are eating dinner at home and week later the only shelter to be found is during the time it takes to eat a meal provided by one organization or another.

They ate and then had to return to the outside world to find a place to sleep; with the hopes that they would not get hurt during the night.

Every year, so many people/families are displaced for various reasons. Raging fires seem to sweep throughout California on a regular basis. In September of 2009, many north Georgia counties were declared to be in a state of emergency due to days of endless rain; which caused flash floods, downed trees, and damage to both businesses and personal property.

Many residents were forced out of their homes, which were completely full of water.

People floated on what they could or held onto trees until they could be rescued. It does not matter how it happens, it happens. People lose their homes and everything they own due to accidents or natural disasters. Until you read this article, did you know that there were grants available to help all of those displaced individuals/families?

Being displaced (losing your home and all that you own) is a very tumultuous event. Not everyone can afford to just start their life over from scratch.

Government grants for displaced individuals/families are offered through agencies such as FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and SBA (Small Business Administration). The grants offered through these agencies may allow displaced families to get the assistance they need in order to:

  • Rebuild a home or business
  • Recover from uninsured loss of personal property (i.e., automobiles, furniture, and so forth)
  • Gain funds needed to assist in down-payment toward the purchase of a new home

Keep in mind that these type of grants, like all other government grants, can be difficult to secure. You have to keep in mind all the other people in the country that are also applying for grants.

Also realize that if you are able to get approved for a grant, it may not be for the full amount that you want. But anything will help; especially when you’ve lost your home. Like other grants, you need to do the research to learn which pertain to you.

Government Grant Kits can be helpful when starting your search. Again, the applications are easy, but the research and knowing which grant is right for you can be a difficult process. Finding a reputable company that offers these Grant Kits can cut out a lot of work for you.

They can educate you a great deal on the whole process of applying for government grants, and let you know of the requirements needed for each type of grant. Just remember to purchase your kit from a company that has good ratings and a good reputation.

Remember also that this can be a life-changing experience for you or a loved one that has been displaced. Know that there is help for those of you that have been displaced or lost your home.
