In our society today the divorce rate has increased to an alarming rate of approximately fifty percent of couples just in the United States alone.

Because of this fact, there are numerous mothers that are single and doing everything they possibly can just to keep their head above water.

This means there are tons of single moms who are going through the exciting and exhausting motions of raising their children, and it is not something that is all that easy to accomplish when you are doing it all by yourself.

Unfortunately there are many times when a divorce occurs, not only is the second income something the single mother will lose, but more often than not she also loses the income that she rightfully should be receiving simply because too many men today simply refuse to pay it.

The first option is through direct assistance or a loan from the college itself, which are grants that will not need to be repaid, and include religious organizations, state or federal government, alumni gifts, through work-study programs, or even scholarships that private organizations sponsor.

Government Grant Application Process

As long as a single mother is a the resident of a territory in the U.S. or is a citizen of the United States, she can apply to receive a grant from the government. Others that can apply would be foreign citizens that have lived within the U.S. for no less than three years. All of the paperwork of a government grant should be thoroughly read before applying.

This type of grant can be extremely confusing and if they are improperly filled out, they will generally be discarded.

Make sure that you only apply for specific grants that you may quality for, and make sure time is taken to understand what these qualifications are before proceeding. This can save considerable amounts of time that it takes to fill out various applications.
