Writing a grant proposal is really not all that different from writing a business plan.
It is important that you posses a strong writing ability and are able to get your thought process across in a clear and concise manner.
In every grant proposal there are a few things you should focus on:
Mission Statement
Make sure that your mission statement is clear, concise, and accurately describes the service or product you provide.
Organizations History
Your organizations history is looked at as an indication of the organizations future. It is important that you present your organization as trustworthy and deserving.
Organization Information
Basic details concerning your organization.
Problem/Need Statement
The most important part of any grant proposal. This will be your foundation for your entire proposal, and it is very important that you accurately describe the needs of your organization in a clear and concise manner.
Make sure not to include a solution in your problem statement. Instead of saying “The Seaview Community Center needs to hire security detail in order to protect its members” say, “The Seaview Community Center has seen a rise in crime during and after sponsored events.” Be careful not to describe what you need, but rather why you need it.
Program Plan
A plan of action for your organization.
Table of Goals and Objectives
It is important that you are able to set goals for your organization. These goals and objectives should be end results that the grant would help you achieve.
Evaluation
Evaluation of your organizations need, goals, and spending habits.
Other Objects to may Include
Project Budget/Operating Budget, Financial Audit/990, List of Board of Directors, Copy of 501(c)(3) status, Letters of Collaboration
Other than that, strive to do your best and be unique. Your mission statement is your bread and butter, so make it count. It helps a lot when you’re tackling a certain cause, problem or business model from a different angle then others.
